Disability Information Management System Education Modules Project

09 Temmuz 2025

A meeting was held within the scope of the Disability Information Management System Training Modules Project, carried out under the leadership of the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Department of Disaster Affairs. The meeting took place on 30 June 2025 at the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality building and was attended by a large number of academics from various universities, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and trainers.

Academics from Erciyes University, Kayseri University, and Abdullah Gül University, together with members of accredited search and rescue associations and trainers from the Besime Özderici Barrier-Free Life Center, came together to discuss in detail the disaster awareness and preparedness training modules specifically designed for seven different types of disabilities.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that these modules—developed to minimize the risks that individuals with disabilities may face during disasters—would contribute to both individual and institutional preparedness processes when integrated with information management systems. In this respect, the project is related to Target 5 of SDG 11 ("Reduce the adverse effects of natural disasters"). Moreover, with its inclusive educational approach that prioritizes the needs of individuals with disabilities, the project offers a strong solution towards Target 9 of SDG 11 ("Implement policies for inclusion, resource efficiency, and disaster risk reduction"), by encouraging policies that promote participation, inclusion, and resource efficiency in disaster management.

At the end of the meeting, participants discussed suggestions regarding the applicability and continuous development of the training modules. They agreed that this project would make a significant contribution to building a more disaster-resilient society for individuals with disabilities, both in Kayseri and at the national level.
